MATERIALS
PORTAL provides teaching and study materials about the most significant subject areas of urban transport, based on up to date research results. You may choose from written materials, slides for overhead projection, animated electronic presentations, audio CDs, a collection of photographs and distance learning elements.
Their didactic structure enables their use in different types of learning and presentation formats. The materials are designed to be both mutually complementary and capable of being adapted by the instructors to the relevant teaching goals and instructional settings and situations.

Written Materials
The written materials constitute the core of the materials collection. They are available in up to 16 languages and comprise between 30 and 70 pages, with some expanded versions available (in English only). Written Materials have a standardised structure focusing on the following issues:
EU research results, application examples, educational relevance, exercises, national differences, additional reading / links, a glossary, the composition of the project consortia and the connections between the topics and EU policies.

Transparencies
The transparencies help lecturers provide a graphic description of the learning content. They are an ideal complement to the written materials as they contain the most important results and thus provide a compact foundation for effective teaching. The layout can be changed slightly to be adapted to each instructor’s needs and goals, and is also appropriate as a supplement to personal slide collections. The transparencies are prepared in print quality and are available in up to 16 languages.

Electronic Presentations
Electronic presentations are another ideal supplement to written materials. In content they correspond to the overhead slides, but are animated in order to demonstrate processes or sequences of events in a more graphic manner. They can also be customised, for example by integrating individual electronic slides into an instructor’s existing personal presentation. The presentation itself can also be expanded with additional slides.

Audio CD
Specially developed audio CDs are available for the topics “Quality Management and Benchmarking in Public Transport“ and “Mobility Management and Travel Awareness”. These CDs contain supplementary practical applications for the written materials (original recordings of researchers and implementation specialists) and can be used as an introduction to the subject and as the foundation for a discussion among the training participants. The CDs are designed so as to allow use of individual tracks in the instructional setting. The following languages are available: English, German, Spanish, French and Italian.

Photo CD
High quality graphic elements are a central component of modern teaching. To support this notion, PORTAL has prepared a Photo CD containing a large assortment of items to illustrate learning content. Many of the photos are also found in the written materials and presentation slides. Their compilation on a CD makes it easy to use and integrate the photographic material in each lecturer’s own presentation. The entire collection comprises more than 200 images and can be ordered via an online form or by post. These high quality images are fully compatible with other printing media.

Distance Learning Tools
Education and further training are experiencing structural change as the limited time resources of both students and learners already engaged in a career increasingly require alternative formats for knowledge transmission and acquisition. PORTAL aims to accommodate this trend by providing special distance learning tools in addition to the traditional materials accompanying the topics “Urban Freight Transport and City Logistics” and “Mobility Management and Travel Awareness”.
